Establishment And Aims

What is GGSD?

The GGSD is a non-governmental, non-profitable, non-political group of medical and non-medical persons interested in research projects and launching educational programs related to diabetes care in Gulf Countries.
The GGSD represents its members at Gulf level, working to improve and prolong the lives of people with diabetes.
The Gulf Group for the Study of Diabetes (GGSD) was founded on 20th January 2000 by a group of Endocrinologist from the different Gulf Countries supported by Servier Research Group. Their main aim was to formulate a group, which would organize different activities in the field of Diabetes Mellitus.
The objective of this group is to improve the understanding about this disease through research projects and launching educational programs for both medical personnel and community.
At the same time Gulf Study Group will work hard to improve the services in the Gulf Countries provided for diabetes patients and will endeavor to publish different educational and scientific materials.
The board members are not the only people involved in those activities but all Diabetologists, Endocrinologists, Internists, Family Physicians, General Practitioners, Dietitians, Diabetes Educator, etc…are particularly invited to participate in this group activity.

Objectives of the Group

  • Improvement and development of Diabetes Care in the Gulf Countries.
  • Development of Education Programs for Diabetes in the Gulf Countries.
  • Support and promotion of the medical and scientific research in the field of diabetes.
  • To co-ordinate and standardize research in the epidemiology of diabetes in the GCC Countries.
  • To promote studies regarding patient education in the GCC Countries.
  • To organize congresses, seminars, workshops and scientific and educational meetings in the field of diabetes.
  • The GGSD should act as a bridge between the Diabetic Associations in the GCC countries, to strengthen the relation among them.
  • The GGSD should become a reference point for information regarding diabetes in the GCC Countries.
